Micah 2016

The Micah Conference 2016 was an overwhelming success! Students across America had a great time meeting fellow christians who are devoted to learning about Justice in our world. We had a range of speakers: Shane Claiborne, co-founding member of the Simple Way in Philadelphia, and Dr. Michael Chen, a past teacher and organizer of the Trinity Institute for Leadership and Social Justice, Katie Smith Milway, a partner in Bridgespan’s Boston office and author of One Hen, Dr. Teri Elliott-Hart, current leader of the Trinity Institute, and Coz Crosscombe, Urban Ministry Director at Cairn University. "This is one of the most amazing events I've gone to. I was on the Micah planning team this year and it was so much fun to see all the great fun that people were having together and all the learning opportunities for them to see what they can take home to their communities about how to act justly, how to love mercy, and how to walk humbly with the Lord."           So what is The Micah Conference? The Micah Conference is a completely student led conference that focuses on empowering youth to create social change in their communities. We take our name from the prophet Micah, who urged God’s people, “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8). Our view on social justice is restorative, transformative, and based in Christian theology. This means that we focus not only on community service projects, but also on discussing what social justice really is and how we can create long-lasting transformation. By featuring a diverse set of speakers both local and national and a variety of interactive workshops, attendees will be exposed to a broad range of current social issues and their potential solutions. In this way, the conference is structured to engender a desire for a justice, a love for mercy and reliance on our God. Visit our website to see what we do. We hope you all get the chance to attend our 2017 Conference in late June!
